Well, see, this is for a call center.  While I'm sure Asterisk can 
handle the call load, I have no idea how much computational power it 
takes to convert the file to a different format.  Spread this over 
several concurrent calls and I don't want introduce a situation that 
could compromise my server.

If, however, it takes a fraction of a second to convert and uses minimal 
cpu time, I have no problems installing Sox and post-processing all my 
calls.
