Thank you, I just joined the list so I didn't hear about your dilemma. Sorry
it didn't work out for you Tim.

I'm sure you couldn't care less about more details, but maybe some others in
the future will. It turns out that Broadvoice has servers in LA, Miami, and
Washington DC. The DC one are most reliable (at least for me). LAX would be
closer but I've seen these servers too often unreachable (Registration
timeout, etc. as you described). So I simply entered the DC server's IP
address in my /etc/hosts and no problems for months. Yes, there is a
performance penalty for doing this (higher latency) but to me it's not
noticeable.

One other thing: in their books the first line I have (since May) is
actually their SPA-1000, but I had no problems getting the SIP registration
info from them to use their adapter with my * on a non-BYOD plan. It works,
they know, they don't mind. This openness, and not necessarily price, is the
main reason I chose them. However, if someone knows other provides that
allow the use of * officially or not (not like Vonage that charges $5 extra
for "softphone" access) please let me know!

OK, I'll stop here. Just wanted to add some technical details.
