Performance is mostly a myth, unless you have an application that has a 
working set more than 1-2 gigabytes. For ordinary applications, 
including asterisk, performance gain in 64-bit mode compared to 32-bit 
mode is merely 10-15%.

In any case my point is that discouraging people from trying 64-bit on 
the grounds that "few application" work is a FUD. In fact the opposite 
is true - as long as you use modern development environment (i.e. modern 
compiler, modern binutils, modern system libs) the risk of running into 
some kind of issue with popular applications is pretty slim.
