The version that is there is generated from 2.60.  If you use a 
different version, the diff will end up being huge, even though there 
are no real functional differences.

What makes you think that?  In fact, the last thing I did before we made 
and released the 1.4.1 tarballs was make a small change to configure.ac 
and regenerate the configure script, so I *know* it is up to date.
