If you update to the latest code in the 1.4 branch, this issue may be already fixed.

It is certainly supposed to.  You can look at the current list of files that 
res_musiconhold knows about using the "moh show files" CLI command.  If this 
isn't working correctly, please put it up on bugs.digium.com so we can get it fixed.
