There is no "stable" branch. The 1.2 branch is for development of the  
1.2 releases.
The releases are the tar.gz archives on ftp.digium.com and mirrors.

Following the 1.2 svn branch will from time to time cause errors as  
we are trying
fix stuff. We do test the 1.2 svn branch before we make a release,  
that is, creates
a .tar.gz file and gives it a tag.
