This is very, very true. Many very smart and talented people have had their
code rot in the bug tracker for a long, long time. I don't really have any
solutions on hand, but I wanted to echo your sentiment that yes, unless you
have the ear of one of the developers, it's damn near impossible to get some
things addressed... even things that are very important to a large number of
users.
The typical response that drives many to insanity is "use ${POOR_HACK}
instead." -- Now there isn't anything wrong with that inherently, but when
the next question is "If I code up a fix, or get it coded, does it stand a
chance of getting into the tree?" and the response is either "no" or
silence... well that is when people stomp off and form FreePBX or any of the
other forks. Losing good people for no good reason is never a good thing.
