[Asterisk-bsd] Caller ID

I have a virtual PRI coming in over SIP, and I found that sometimes calls
coming in to a toll-free DID had really strange caller ID numbers.
I opened a ticket with my carrier, and they told me that originating wireless
carriers usually substitute a bogus caller ID number when calling toll-free.
I seem to remember hearing something about a scam that used a cellphone to
falsely authenticate a western union transfer or something like that.
Could that be a possibility?
