Takes 20 minutes for a generator to kick in?  Sounds like you need an
automatic transfer switch.  My generator kicks in 20 seconds after a power
outage with an automatic transfer switch.

   Im in Tampa which translates in American Indian for "Lightning" no I
can tell you you need something.  We use ALL APC3000 to 5000 series
UPS's to power our equipment.  During the hurricanes we were able to
stay online for about 20 minutes before the generator kicked in.
