UMMM ... 24 channels are less one for signaling so 23 channels are for
audio Unless you are NOT using ISDN then you have 24 channels but you
can not take advantage of some of the advance feature available on a
ISDN PRI. If you do not need the features in ISDN than you can go with
an 24 Channel T1 Phone connection. There is a way if you have multiple
ISDN PRI's to share one control channel to get 24 channel but you have
to have more than 1 ISDN PRI to use that signaling.

One other thing It depends on the local loop for your cost of the T1...
That price I quoted was Local loop cost Plus local Telco Services On an
ISDN PRI from Sprint for a client of mine. Not all companies have
massive datacenters available to get those large discounts on Service.
I set up growing companies. I do use ISDN PRI but I also use Voip as a
backup for overflow and during peak usage. With a Dedicated Long
distance ISDN Pri I can get the per min rate down to 2.4 cents a min.

You missed the point of this discussion ... per channel cost... That is
what prompted the numbers from me in the first place. It was not
nessessarly unlimited time, but the number of simultaneous channels
open to the system. The costs are just a basis for client to go from
not a means to an end.

I agree with you that voip is not as reliable as PTSN. The VoIP does
have its problems still, but so do Cell phones and people choose to use
them as well. It depends what you or your clients are willing to
tolerate. I always recommend PTSN along with VoIP never just Voip for
2 reasons. ( 911 service, Alternative when someone cuts a Fiber trunk
but that can also knock out phones as well).

There are also reasons for choosing IAX2 Trunking some of the overhead
of multiple sip connections are reduced, thus more connections through
an IAX2 Trunk after 4 simultaneous connections a bandwidth savings are
realized.

VoIP has a ways to go to reach the reliability of PSTN network.
Technology is improving and QoS routers and switches are being moved
into small offices and ISP's. The big problem is over subscription with
Smaller ISP. But VoIP performance will improve when they implement QoS
and ToS routing and switching. A QoS and ToS Switch can be purchased
for under $300 for 24 ports which makes it more affordable for small
businesses.

Thanks for listening,
