[Asterisk-biz] Tried researching but found nothing

I have both in my lab. They are about as different as two systems can
be.

The Talkswitch is an excellent SOHO/Small Business switch, but that's
it. Asterisk, on the other hand, can be just about anything you can
conceive of.

Talkswitch is easy to install and maintain. Asterisk requires a fairly
advanced skill set.

Talkswitch is closed. Asterisk is open.

Talkswitch runs on a proprietary architecture. Asterisk runs on
commodity hardware.

Talkswitch has size limits. Asterisk's limits have yet to be fully
explored.

Talkswitch only does analogue and SIP. Asterisk does just about
anything.

Talkswitch is simple. Asterisk is complex.

The bottom line is that you could program an Asterisk system to behave
pretty much exactly like a Talkswitch, but you could never hope to
convince your Talkswitch to do what Asterisk can.

If the feature set of the Talkswitch meets your needs, I can recommend
it as an excellent product. If you want to be on the very cutting edge,
love Linux, need to have mind-expanding levels of customization, and
enjoy tinkering, then Asterisk is the ticket - there is nothing like it
anywhere, at any price.

Cheers,

Jim.
