[asterisk-users] telemarketer database ....next stages... Wasasterisk telemarketer torture sound file

True enough...how about this then...
For any unknown numbers since I already do call lookups on existing
numbers in my local database (Asteridex) followed by google and couple
others...anything coming back unknown...would like to find at least what
it is and call display it....
So a few things things...
1. a way to peer directories so we could query peers to find if it's
there.
2. a last hit so you know if it's a 5 yr old hit, it's likely
obsolete...
3. Some agreed format for usage...ie. Last name, first name if
individual, company name if listed (or both if applicable)
4. Info originator so that multiple hits from the same source could be
listed as one.
5. A category or classification...ie political, other type fundraiser,
charity, etc...
6. A scoring of how many blacklist a number as a percentage of peers
that returned the number

Using a distributed peering technology such as something like dundi
...authorized peer network...

In fact, if this worked better, it would be preferred than searching
google.

Part of my thought process was going through my cdr this morning, I had
approximately 3200 calls in the last two months. Of those 75% were
already in my database. The balance were often 5 seconds or less since
they disconnected. By identifying something like that... I could reduce
the effort of trying to answer the phone, and then also *32 after seeing
the call display so I could locally blacklist it myself.

Any further thoughts...

Also,
What *is* a telemarketer?
I have the ACLU on my blacklist, i'm a big contributor to the ACLU and
instead of being happy, they take this as a sign that they should bleed
me dry further (the same for lots of political causes).

What occurs to me here is something on the order of dnsbls and how they
are used for spam in modern well-setup dnsbls.

A query to these dnsbls will return a specific result class (of course,
since this is a dnsbl it's still a horrible hack but i'm advocating the
concept not the design).
For example, zen.spamhaus.org (look at http://www.spamhaus.org/faq/
answers.lasso?section=DNSBL%20Technical#200), returns A records based on
why that entry is in the database, so I can choose to use only the small
manually maintained SBL list, or the XBL list, or just PBL, or some
combination of these!
Good design (bad implementation though, dns wasn't designed for this :/)

Why not have the same thing in a database of telephone numbers?
Classify numbers depending on who is calling, categories for all the
different exceptions in the do-not-call laws for example...

This definitely has to be something centralized though, a peer-to- peer
system is indeed begging for abuse.
