Do you want to configure Asterisk to send and recieve faxes or your fax
machine to send/receive via Asterisk?

The latter is quite easy if you have an ATA like the Cisco or Sipura
ones. Simply configure the ATA to use G711 ULAW and then set up an
extension in Asterisk's sip.conf file what allows the fax machine to
talk ULAW. You also have to be able to send ULAW to your phone company
(not a problem if you have real lines plugged into your PBX) too.

As for the former, I never could get that going. There's no doubt a ton
of advice for an app called spandsp on this list.
