[Asterisk-Users] * and Fax

Hi Alex.
I'm pretty sure that it can be done with a simple AGI script following the
rxfax action in the extensions.conf file.
I could make it, but I'm busy on another things this week.
The only caveat of this setup is really "SpanDSP"; on my tests it received
faxed "squished" like 200% width and 100% width. I know that I can resize de
resulting TIFF file afterwards, but I think there's something wrong with my
spandsp setup first.

I have only started to "play" with * over the last couple of weeks so you
will have to forgive any newbisms or mistakes on my part. :-)
It seems to me (or at least in my idea of a utopian office) that the end
goal should be to replace all the physical fax machines.
Receiving can currently be done by converting into a TIFF / PDF and then
emailing to an address depending on the DDI, right?? This is great but
could be improved by sending it straight to a networked printer depending on
the DDI (U.S. DID right?) used by the sender. (The company I am doing this
feasability study / research for have multiple departments most with a fax
machine.
But what would be really cool was if they could send faxs directly from
their PC's (Windows).
I am also not really an expert on Linux either (tho learning loads) and if
someone knows how this can be done via AGI scripts and what not I would be
very interested to know.
cheers
Alex

Hi,
I think this is one area that needs to be developed. I am curently
implementing a system for my home so cannot really justify the cost of
financially supporting the development of this when all I really need to do
is buy a telephone extension lead for my existing fax modem!!!
I am more than willing to devote some testing/documentation time (I am not
really a programmer) if that helps.
Faxing is an important facility for many businesses tho, and it would make
sense to be able to handle a fax call directly from asterisk to hylafax
without having to route it via some analog device on the same machine (eg.
pstn -> voip ->fax svr-> email rather than pstn -> voip -> analog line ->fax
svr ->email)
Am i barking up the wrong tree or do others also need this functionality?

Dear Friends of Ubiquity Software:
As you may have noticed, Ubiquity Software began using the web domain
ubiquity.com earlier this year in addition to the previously established
ubiquity.net for our website and email communications to you. However,
since that time, a dispute has emerged with respect to actual ownership of
the ubiquity.com domain.
As an international software company founded over decade ago, you can always
reach Ubiquity Software under the website www.ubiquity.net <HYPERLINK
"http://www.ubiquity.net/" \nhttp://www.ubiquity.net/> and via email at
@ubiquity.net. However, we have also chosen to expand our domain to the
more specific www.ubiquitysoftware.com <HYPERLINK
"http://www.ubiquitysoftware.com/" \nhttp://www.ubiquitysoftware.com/> for
web and @ubiquitysoftware.com for email communications.
Please use either the historical ubiquity.net or begin to use the new
ubiquitysoftware.com domain for all email communications to Ubiquity
employees from now on.
Thank you.
Regards,
Ubiquity Software
