That depends on what you want to do with Asterisk and for how 
many users. I wouldn't want to have thousands of SIP users 
register with Asterisk and have Asterisk route the calls at 
the same time. Let SER handle the registrations (that's what 
it's for) and have Asterisk handle the calls. Now registrations 
and sanity checking can be handled by SER and Asterisk is 
protected (a little).
