It is a question of power.  Most of the 'standard' phone systems will
support upwards of 800-1000 ft. (250-300 meters) and you can add long line
adapters (just an additional p/s of the proper voltage) to the line to
extend it.  I haven't messed with the TDM cards to know any exact figures on
them.
