I know now we have Openr2 library that replaced Unicall and the new Asterisk distributions include support for it (I believe starting 1.6 or so). Yes, openr2 must be already installed when compiling Asterisk, so it requires a recompile (or it requires installing a binary version that was compiled with openr2 already)
