That would only sort it for SIP... Obviously i don't know Asterisk's 
code at all, so maybe I'm dreaming, but maybe there is an abstraction 
layer for signalisation that this feature could be implemented at, and 
hence be available for all channels (Zap, SIP, IAX, etc...)?
