[Asterisk-Dev] Help Required

Hi all,
I am new to Asterix so please help me out. 
- I have downloaded and compiled Asterix, and the am getting the CLI.
- I want to set up a system which would be like this: the Asterix pbx on one machine, and two softphones (gnophone) on other machines. These phones can then be registered with pbx and i want to try some features on this setup.
-I downloaded Gnophone but am finding problems with its comilation. It requires Iax library to be there, so i had already downloaded,compiled the iax tar available from the same site. but still gnophone is not being configured properly. 
Q: are there any other dependencies for it that i should have before trying to compile it?
- for the above setup, i dont want any sort of special hardware, ie for hardphone or for gateway card or anything else. I just want to setup the pbx on my simple linux machine and two phones and have them talk to each other thru the pbx. (for now).
Q: do i need anything else like any hardware etc without which the pbx cant work or phones cant work?
Q: do i need to do anything for codec support particulary?
Once i have the phones ready ,can someone please give me a pointer about how to add users to the pbx etc.,basically which config files etc should i read and change( if required), or which will give the right info to go on in this direction?..maybe ive asked too many questions already!
