[Asterisk-video] asterisk video beginner

Hi all,

I'm just getting started with asterisk video. I am only interested in
playing video to a caller -- not recording at this time.

From what I've read so far, some of the choices seem to be...

1. use the app_mp4 application
2. use gstreamer and the existing Playback function

I'm using asterisk 1.4.11 on a linux box and have tried several
softphones (i.e. linphone, ekiga, x-lite, etc) using sip locally.

For the mp4 approach, the video doesn't play, but I'm not sure I'm
using a properly formatted mp4 file. For the gstreamer approach, I
can't get the gst-launch command to work (get erroneous pipeline: no
element "qtdemux").

I'd welcome any tips you could provide...

a. Which approach is preferred (1 or 2 or something else altogether).
b. Could someone post a small mp4 and/or (gstreamer-formatted) wav that
are known to work?
c. Any sip.conf changes that might not be obvious?
d. What video-enabled softphones are folks using?

Thanks
John
