Why does it ruin "all in one" if it's not "all" without a local resolver?

The only difference is that your resolver ask your ISP's DNS server for answers instead of Asterisk, since your resolver can handle the situation of not getting DNS replies properly. With caching, it might also speed up issues.

You still need a mail server for running Asterisk, so adding a simple DNS server doesn't add much to the "all in one" list.
