Couple suggestions:

On Win32, try Serv-U FTP. It's very reliable and supports a variety  
of protocols like SFTP and the like. Commercial software.

On Linux, I've fallen in love with FreeNAS, and not just because it  
utilizes the m0n0wall GUI. You can boot it off a USB stick, too,  
which I find super-cool.
