in /etc/hosts edit the file and add your external IP or dyndns name to
the 127.0.0.1 address:

127.0.0.1        externalip asterisk localhost

so just add it as the first entry after 127.0.0.1

Then restart sendmail and see if it picks up the new address from
which to send.  If not just reboot the box.
