Depends on what they need to do. Iirc Signate has an SGI box that takes
10,000+ calls. See http://www.signate.com/pdf/TelephonyServer.pdf (I've
no affiliation).

For load balancing SER comes to mind. The number of Asterisk boxes
depends on the application. If you get your calls via PRI's I suggest
exploring 2 MaxTNT's each with DS3/GbE interfaces and a lot of
redundancy.
