What motherboard chipset does your 2850 use? It's the Intel 7250
(Lindenhurst) ?

My 2650 has a ServerWorks GC-LE chipset. I'm wondering if that's part of
the problem.

I have a 2600 here that I will test this evening if your kernel option
suggestions don't help. It has an Intel E7500 chipset. Maybe that's
architecturally similar enough to the 7250 that I can get it to work.

I hate to turn off SMP, but I'll do what it takes to get this thing up.
