In those modes, it may not like your reduced number of channels. Try
setting it to PRI CPE side signalling, and give it a switchtype of
5ESS. Define your B channels up to 8 (you could also try 7, just in
case you actually do need to leave 8 for the D channel).

I have read two different stories as far as doing this. Some have said
that no, this is not possible, that because the T-1 card is capable of
24 trunks, the system will reject it. Others have said that this will
work, because the system isn't using anything past 8, or whatever you
actually set the number to. I've found a good resource to be
http://www.tek-tips.com. They have a forum dedicated to Merlin
Magix/Legand PBX's, and some very bright guys in there.

As my disclaimer, I have never done this on a Legend. I did get a
Merlin Magix going with * on a PRI, and it has been very stable ever
since, with the setup described above.
