I think it is about time to consider removing those legacy modules
from the main Asterisk distribution altogether for good. I think it
should be made into an optional "legacy" package that would need to be
explicitly downloaded and added to the standard Asterisk distribution.

Same for the not-really-working modem drivers, OSS, IAX1, and whatever
else is by all reasonable measurements to be considered obsolete.
