Let me check I've got this right.
Smartnet is $10 if you by a new phone (through a reseller)
Smartnet is $100 (ish) is the phpne is 2nd hand (ie off ebay).

2nd hand 7960 approx $250
new 7960 approx $350

So assuming that you're going to do things legally, it's far cheaper to buy a 
new 7960 than get one of ebay - especially when you work on a 3 year write 
off.
Even with UK pricing I'd guess that it'd work out cheaper to buy new, although 
it's not quite a clear cut as in the US
