Most people here seem to miss the point that a dedicated hard interface is
a lot easier to use than any computer interface. An analogue would be the
human interfaces to digital oscilloscopes. Initially the manufacturers
went the "this is a computer" route as soon as possible since that is
cheaper to build. One wheel or a mouse to control it, perhaps a keyboard.
They forgot how it was to be used. A dedicated hard interface with real
buttons and knobs was much faster to work with, and still is. Of course,
most of these do double duty for more advanced modes, and sometimes you
still plug in a keyboard to do complex setups.
You should always design an interface around a human being. A hard
interface with a light and a button per extension and so on is really a
very good interface. We software pople tent to forget the value of a
proper hardware solution.
