Hi all,

For some reason Music On Hold does not work. I have searched the internet for solutions but found nothing that helped.

I use Asterisk 1.0.1 and mpg123 0.59r on Debian 2.6.7-1-386 (Sarge). mpg123 works on the commandline (I get sound from the soundcard). If I start Asterisk, two instances of mpg123 are started with it (ps shows: mpg123 -q -s --mono -r 8000 -b 2048 -f 8192 fpm-calm-river.mp3 fpm-sunshine.mp3 fpm-world-mix.mp3). Calling an extension that just plays the music on hold only shows "Unable to start music on hold (class 'default') on channel SIP/softel1-df8f" in the logfiles and the connection is terminated.

Is there anyone who has the same configuration and that has music on hold working? Does anyone has any ideas about solving this problem? Or is it just not possible (yet) with this distribution?

BTW: I do get a warning related to music on hold during asterisk's startup that may be related (?):

On  [res_musiconhold.so]Nov 18 09:39:24 VERBOSE[1077055616]:  [res_musiconhold.so] => (Music On Hold Resource)
NG[1077055616]: Unable to open pseudo channel for timing... Sound may be choppy.

TIA

Joost
