Thanks Seth, that was the problem. 
As a matter of fact I re-compiled zaptel 2 x times but not Asterisk.

Did you:

modprobe zaptel
modprobe wcfxo

Also make sure that you compiled and installed zaptel *before* you
installed asterisk. If you did it afterwords simply re-compile asterisk
and you should be good.
