[Asterisk-Users] VSP? Looking for advice.

Jason Hartman jhartman at teknikosinc.com

Has anyone tried using BroadVoice for VSP? I have Asterisk configured
for a home office & I've been trying to decide which VoIP provider to go
with for a little while now. I had heard you could get sub $.01 calls
but I have not found that to be true yet (not saying it's not possible,
I just haven't found it!).

Also I'm not sure if BV will support multiple lines. Any suggestions
would be very appreciated.

My main goal is to present a professional image (vm, multiple
extensions, MOH, etc - Asterisk!) while accepting calls on multiple
lines. I would like to have 2 incoming DID's and most likely a third
for fax. I haven't researched Asterisk/fax yet.

I am currently spending around $50 a month with Vonage. My intention
was to continue to use Vonage then forward directly to my VSP assigned
DID (haven't found any that have a local # for me or offer LNP). Since
I would continue paying for the Vonage service (it will forward to my
cell in the event that the PBX was unavailable) I really would like to
keep my costs down by finding the lowest priced VSP out there. I don't
make calls to Europe or Canada.

Thanks in advance...

Jason

SCSI is fine. The biggest problem with SCSI is expense--it's
frequently a big premium over IDE and it doesn't always return much on
that investment. If you already have a SCSI system, there's no reason
to expect problems.

The problem is that the community is growing. It's no longer a few guys
in their basement playing with phones. The mailing list volume is
growing right along with it. You have to remember that this mailing list
is one of the few real support channels that exist for *. The S/N ratio
is getting pretty bad. Most of us don't have the time to spend all day
long to sort the wheat from the chaff. The lack of good ettiquette has
destroyed the digest version of this list, and the archives are close
behind. How is a noob going to research before posting when the list is
full of crap, threads are broken by lazy outlook users, etc?

A few bytes spent urging the list admin to become more proactive in
improving the quality of ths list is a great investment if the end
result is an improvement in the content and usability of this list. I
realize he's probably overworked and has a bazillion other things to do,
but this really is a problem that needs to get fixed for the good of the
community. I've seen what happens to mailing lists that degenerate like
this one is. I would prefer that this not happen with *-users.

FYI, one typical post by an apathetic user who doesn't trim probably
uses
more bandwidth than this entire thread.

I found a message from you to the asterisk users mailing list from 2001.
I was wondering if you got (or still have) an asterisk system working
with the linejack? If so, would you be willing to assist me with mine?

I seem to have things working, and * says that caller ID is coming in,
but I can't get * to actually answer the call.

Thanks,
Greg

The Marriott Marquis (assume that's where it's going to be held) is a
decent hotel. Plus, the upstairs bar sometimes has nice ammenities. :)

As other's have mentioned, MARTA (local light rail service) goes right
from the airport baggage claim into downtown. You're 2 blocks max from
the hotel. $1.75 per trip can't be beat.

Now that I know it's in town, I'll see about attending myself.

Its very clear why...

app_dbodbc.c:441 odbc_load_module: app_dbodbc: Unable to connect to
datasource: MySQL-asterisk

use isql to test..

isql <dsn> <username> <password>

I suspect that wont even work. It clearly says it can't connect.

Hi Seshu,

Thanks for the info. Sounds like most of the problems have to do with
STUN
and NAT. How did you get access to the "fixed" firmware to solve the
other
problems?

Greg,

I did get it to answer. I thought the whole setup was very clever and
intend(ed) to keep using it. However, my asterisk box has been sitting
faithfully under my desk, unplugged for a year. It would take me so
long to re-familiarize with it that you probably would've solved the
problem yourself by then.

I had the tdm line card and the usb station port working so that:

1) I could place a call through my asterisk to the telco.
2) Receive a call from telco, ring on my station and connect when I
picked up the handset.

I never experimented with H-323, SIP or any of that. If you're really
stumped, I can power it up again and share settings, etc.

I'm sorry that must've been someone else with the same name, I've only
