[Asterisk-Users] Zultys 4x4 or 4x5 ip phones?

After my inquiry on-list I contacted a couple of Zultys resellers as
well as Zultys tech support themselves. What I found about the 4x5 is
as follows:

1. The phone is not yet in widespread distribution. While they may be
taking orders and have a few select beta sites, they are not in general
delivery. Tech support thought more general delivery was only a few
weeks away.

2. The LCD is not backlit. This was one of my criteria for an idea
phone. Manufacturers listen up! This is not an option...it's a
necessity...especially in phones over $300.

3. At present the PSTN port functions as an analog phone with limited
integration to the IP side of the phone. You can make a local call or
conference between an IP call and a PSTN call, but that' s about it.
This is a firmware issue and reflects the early development of the
product. It's really just a local lifeline capability at the moment.

4. Eventually, perhaps in 90-120 days, they expect a firware release
that will more tightly integrate the FXO port into the IP side of the
phone. That will make incomming calls to the PSTN port the equivalent
of a SIP event on a gateway. This will allow unanswered calls to be
forwarded to a pbx for routing to voicemail, call forwarding, etc.

5. They are testing beta sites using the Zultys MX series PBXs and have
not used the phone with *.

I really like the idea of the PSTN port in the phone when it's better
integrated. Unless something better comes along in the next 3 months I
may end up just waiting until the ZIP 4x5 matures as a product.
