my doorphone is in immediate mode in its own context.
s extension plays greeting, and rings a set of phones, and dumps to
voicemail if not answered. So you never get a dialtone and can't do
anything from this phone even though it has a dialpad.

doorphone also has an extension so it can be dialed from inside and rings
normally if you wish to talk to whoever is there, and they chose the low
tech method of knocking.

(at my door you can knock, ring a doorbell, or pick up the door phone -
you would be surprised how many people knock. Probably there are some that
are scared off entirely that I don't even know about.)
