I agree with the certification for 1 main reason, it's something to show
your work.

Although I've been working with Asterisk for 4 months now and have gotten
pretty good (thanks in part to reverse engineering a previous persons dial
plans), I still feel there is a lot more out there, stuff I'm missing. I can
do a lot, but I also know there's a lot of tips/tricks/advanced things that
can be done.

I've been asking my company for Asterisk training for a month now and they
will probably approve it early next year, but one of the comments I've heard
is "$2,000 for training and not even a certification to show for it."

Corporate will see a certification as proof you learned, that you didn't go
to class at their expense and goofed off. So I don't mind getting certified,
if it gets them to pay for my training, more power to the dCAP.

Whatever it takes to get my company to spend money to make me a better
Asterisk Administrator; It's a benefit to them to have me know this
knowledge, but it's a major benefit to me to have this knowledge.

I'm CCNA trained, I've worked with Cisco's for years now, but never got the
actual Cert, nevertheless, I was hired based off my knowledge and
experience, not the piece of paper.

training andcertification :: AstriconTraining

I'm in agree with Brian for the following reasons:
- By principle I'm against the certification: it is not a proof of
knowledge.
- Certification is discriminatory: only the people from the "first
world" should be certificated, USD $ 3.275,00 is one year salary for
many engineers in developing countries. If you add travel, hotel, etc.
it can reach 2 year salary.

Why they do not post the 150 question exam in the web and provide
certification for peoples who answer correctly? Free of course.
