This is an interesting idea. Voip does cause a delay that necessitates the
use of an echo canceler. Another advantage is that most proprietary
digital phones have a lot more programmable buttons/leds/whatnot than
current voip phones.

One problem I see is that there are several different poprietary digital
phone interfaces.
