[Asterisk-Users] Does RTP traffic go through Asterisk IP PBX ?

Hello,

Is there anybody knows if RTP traffic goes thru Asterisk IP PBX?
If it is, it must limit the capacity of Asterisk. Do you know the concurrent 
SIP call capacity?  
And Is there any guy modify the source code to prevent this?
