[Asterisk-Users] How to play sound AND run asterisk?

Sounds like * is loading chan_oss or chan_alsa.
Two things that I've found that might help.

1. in /etc/asterisk/modules.conf add the following lines
   noload => chan_alsa.so
   noload => chan_oss.so

2. The other option which may sound bizarre but worked for me was to
start * with esddsp like this
   esddsp asterisk -vvvgc

My guess is that option 1 will solve you problem.
