Asterisk supports DID, chan capi too.
The echo issue happens when the other party
is on a analogue line, so some electrical echo is generated
by the 4 wire to 2 wire hybrid on local loops. If the
other party is on a digital line , no echo is present ;)

The best * isdn solution is chan capi. I've used it with
inexpensive avm passive cards, and with *very* expensive
eicon diva server cards (4BRI). the latter has onboard
dsp to get rid of echo problems (and these dsp are
supported onl by chan capi, not by i4l ).
