If Mandrake is anything like Redhat make sure you have all the following installed...
(names may differ slightly)
bison
cvs
gcc
kernel-sources
libtermcap-devel
newt-devel
ncurses-devel
openssl096b
openssl-devel
readline41
readline-devel
