What about the standard setup
/etc/zaptel.conf
span=X,X,X,esf,b8zs
bchan=1-23
dchan=24
/etc/asterisk/zapata.conf
signalling=pri_cpe
channel => 1-23
and maybe some like options for channel bank and such. that way you
cover some of the bases for 70% of the users
