I would not have a problem with this, since this behavior is business as
usual in this version of chan_sip.

You are correct, this should be fixed in 11 and trunk.

It should be nearly trivial to backport the initial patch to 10 and
shouldn't be too bad for 1.8 either. The reason it has not been done
already is that is a significant change in behavior and is somewhat
invasive.
