While it's certainly not my call... I have to strongly disagree with this point. It's a bug, plain and simple.  It should be fixed in all branches receiving bug fixes, just like every other pattern matching bug I've encountered so far.  (Besides, if you want to get pedantic, this is *very* much a corner case, and I doubt that too many people who happen to be using the caller-id matching syntax are dependent upon the broken behavior shown in this thread.)
