Ah.  I'd assumed, incorrectly, that spandsp 006 is out to 'match'
asterisk 16. My mistake.

Ok.

Then, changing & building,

 -   spandsp-0.0.6pre1
 +   spandsp-0.0.5pre4

Subsequent asterisk v16 build completes without error, and is up & running.
