As Steve mentioned this, I thought I'll give some relevant technical
details.

The system uses Sangoma 4FXO and a Junghanns quad BRI card. It used a
fairly recent version of Zaptel and of the Sangoma drivers. The work
there was doen by Steve, and I merely provided some advices at some
points.

The configuration that worked (as I remember it. Configuration of the
FXO channels left out for clarity)

On zaptel.conf:

# Configure BRI spans as CCS/AMI . Same as in europe.
# Value of LBO used there was different , actually.
span=1,1,0,ccs,ami
span=2,2,0,ccs,ami
span=3,3,0,ccs,ami
span=4,4,0,ccs,ami

# The configuration of the channels:
# Basically the same, but ulaw seems to be used rather than the driver
# of alaw seems to be used there:
bchan=1-2
dchan=3
mulaw=1-2

bchan=4-5
dchan=6
mulaw=4-5

bchan=7-8
dchan=9
mulaw=7-8

bchan=10-11
dchan=12
mulaw=10-11

/etc/asterisk/zapata.conf:

[channels]
; As you would have expected: BRI, PtP, and National switch-type:
switchtype = national
signalling = bri_cpe

; I think this was used. Not sure:
pridialplan = unknown
channel => 1-2,4-5,7-8,10-11
