I ran Asterisk on Ubuntu 8.04 (well, probably 8.04.1, technically) for  
quite a while w/o getting this error.  I'm running on 8.10 now with no  
problems as well.  In fact, I've been running it on probably the last  
4 Ubuntu releases with no problems.
