When things are deprecated, this is always true. It means a better alternative 
is available than the original implementation of the functionality.

It should not be necessary to view the source code to realize something is 
deprecated, but sometimes things get missed. It is unlikely the development 
team would remove functionality from Asterisk without any sort of warning. 

It looks like Tilghman fixed this in r56922 in the 1.4 branch. So this is 
resolved.
