[asterisk-dev] Call Generation

I tried using the Local channel. I tried Local/*43 as the channel (*43 is the echo test). It doesnt work. If I use an extension that is registered as the channel (SIP/701 or Local/701) it works, but I have to pickup the call first before it can call out. Is there any possible way to remove the step of picking up or answering the call before calling out? If you have any sample php codes that would help. Basically I want to make outbound calls but not having to use a registered extension, just the Asterisk Box to call out.

will be using the Asterisk Manager API's action "Originate". Is it possible
to use the echo test on Asterisk as the channel on which to originate the
call? Is it possible that i don't have to use a registered
account/extension?

You need a channel. For a channel that is a loopback to another
context/extension in the dialplan, use the Local channel.
