Something deep and arcane seems to be broken for i386 32bit with that
patch. Everyone who tries it and _hasn't_ had it break has been
non-i386-32bit.

So can someone who _is_ 32bit i386 please try to duplicate this bug, and
tell me whether or not it works, and what your OS and Arch is.
