We only accept submissions through Mantis. If you don't have commit access, you can only submit that way.

Why oh why do people think that there is any 'renouncing' of copyrights involved?

You can make any modifications you want, and you can distribute them in any way that the GPLv2 allows. The disclaimer only applies to changes that you submit to us for inclusion in the official Asterisk (or related project) distribution.
